How the fiber optic switch works?


UT series multi electrical ports media converter (also called fiber optic switch) is a device which converts the electrical port to optical port. Fiber optic switch is allowed to configure with one or more Ethernet electrical ports and 1 or more optical ports; it extends the Ethernet transmission rate from 100m by copper to 2km (multi mode fiber optic) or 120km (single mode fiber optic). It enables you easily connect with hosts, relays, hubs and terminals. UT series adopt advanced switch chip, and with different optic interface for your choose; it supports hot-plug. Working principle: Fiber optic switch is a high speed network transmission relay device. Compare to normal switch, it adopts fiber optic cable as transmission media. The advantages of fiber optic transmission are high speed, and strong anti-interference.

It uses the fiber optic channel which in high transmission rate, and the server network, or SAN(StorageAreaNetwork) internal components’ connection to guarantee wide broadband for storage network. In this SAN storage network, fiber optic switch play a key function.
